CAP STORY

The Fall Cyber Camp started in October 2005 and ended in November 2005. Throughout the last two months it has been a great experience. We had a great turn out, an average of 8 kids a week, the same kids mind you, but at least they came consistently.

We preformed a number of different tasks. Our final project with the first class of 5 did not go so well due to technical difficulties, but the participants were still happy they got to play more games instead. The second class seemed more motivated, and were always asking for more challenging projects. This week is their final project, and I wonder if they can hangle what I am going to assign.

I admit, my first couple of classes I didn't have a clue about what to do, or where to start but I didn't take long until I felt comfortable with the kids and was able to determine their skills and what they needed help with. Michael, a very bright little man, said to me after a few little joke I cracked on some computer lingo saying "I didn't knwo you people could be funny!" By you people, he really meant adults, and this hit me hard almost turning 20 and going through those chapters of life. I began to view this job as the beginning of my Young Adulthood, making me realize that this was my first step. I wanted to do better and make a positive difference now more than ever. I am thankful I have had this opportunity  to do this working one-on-one with the community and a variety of people.

On Thursday I had the class make a coloring book for themselves or someone else in his/her family. I think they had a lot of fun, as I set up the task to really pick their brains. I made them search for certain coloring pages that I had previously found and posted them for them to relate their findings back to. It was a great activity, as we also made cover pages out of harder paper to have a perfect finished product.

Our campts were based on the assumption that they were at the basics, although some participanats where and others had more experience. Either way, each indiviudal left here learning something new and hopfully a little more comfortable with using computers.
